Travertine is a type of subterranean limestone brought to the surface by hot springs. It can come from various sources. Some come from as far away as Indonesia and Iceland, and others are as close as Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon. Erosion from the spring water creates small holes and craters that give travertine a naturally pitted appearance.
